Tani underwear review: How does this underwear brand stack up?

QUICK TAKE

Even though they’re only seven years old, Tani is a respected name in the luxury underwear category. I’ve been wearing their stuff for years, and everything they make feels very high end.

The designs are flattering — though lower rise than most leading underwear brands — and the overall impression is one of a mature, sophisticated underwear brand.

PROS

  • Soft, luxurious fabrics
  • Flattering fits
  • Nice range of options

CONS

  • Waistbands wear out on some of their underwear
  • Could use more colors on some options
  • Runs small in comparison to most American underwear brands

ABOUT TANI

Tani was established in 2015 with the goal of setting a new standard for comfort and durability in luxury underwear.

When the company started, they only sold a few styles of men’s underwear. Now, they’ve expanded their menswear to include thermals and loungewear, as well as adding a line of women’s underwear.

They’re still a popular online brand in the U.S., and are sold in 90 countries worldwide too.

TANI’S UNDERWEAR AND ESSENTIAL STYLES, REVIEWED

Okay, so now let’s get right into the details on each type of underwear that Tani offers. I’ll give you my honest opinions about each, as well as any styling and fit tips that might help you figure out whether they’d be right for you.

MESH BOXER BRIEF

These are easily my favorite pair of underwear right now, even though they’re not actually one of Tani’s flagship products.

They’re super lightweight and breathable thanks to a micro modal and elastane material, making them insanely comfortable overall. I only wish they were available in more colors because this underwear definitely deserves to be a mainstay in any guy’s wardrobe.

SWISSTOUCH COTTON BOXER BRIEF

Most cotton underwear leave a lot to be desired, since it’s one of the most inexpensive fibers to use for clothes. But Tani goes to extra lengths to make sure they get the best cotton possible — which in this case is premium long staple cotton from Switzerland.  That gives these boxer briefs an extra soft waistband to go along with their classic look and sheer opacity, making them a great choice for guys who prefer natural fibers.

FREEFORM CONTOUR TRUNK

True to their name, Tani’s FreeForm Contour Trunks are a very minimalist take on underwear. There’s no hem on the bottom of the trunks, but they don’t roll up or unravel. That’s because of the micro modal fabric blend.

If you wear slim fit or skinny pants or light fabrics, these are great because they won’t show through as much as regular underwear. They offer a really flattering fit, making them a perfect choice for your next date night.

HYBRID BOXER BRIEF WITH POUCH

It seems like everyone’s making pouch underwear now — but not everybody is doing a great job with it, that’s for sure.

Tani’s take is much more tasteful, with more of a minimalist pouch. That’s an especially nice take right now, because a lot of brands go overboard on this

These pouch boxer briefs are made with micro modal and micro tencel. That means they’re very, very stretchy, and extremely comfortable. My only gripe is that after a few months of wearing them, the waistband has lost a lot of its shape.

SILKCUT CLASSIC BOXER BRIEF

The SilkCut Classic Boxer Briefs were Tani’s first pair of underwear for sale, and they’re still one of their best sellers. And quite honestly, they’re the first pair of underwear I owned where I was like “oh, so this is how comfortable underwear can be!”

The feel on these boxer briefs is luxurious, with a little bit of micro modal blended in for comfort and elasticity. They look great, and come in a wide range of colors and patterns.

The only real downside is, again, the waistband will lose a little bit of its shape. But you can tumble dry these to help put a little tension back into the band.

Overall, if you’re only going to buy one pair of underwear from Tani to try out, these are the ones I think you should go for.

SILKCUT TANK

Moving on to some of Tani’s newer products, let’s start with their SilkCut Tank. It’s made with the same micro modal blend as everything in their SilkCut line, making it extremely lightweight and comfy.

I find these tank tops to be form fitting but not too tight, and they’re not too long in the body either. That’s especially nice for shorter guys, where a lot of tank tops can kinda leave you swimming in material.

Overall I think these make a really nice loungewear piece, or maybe a good layer underneath a button-up shirt.

SWISSTOUCH COTTON CREW SHIRT

Coming back to that really nice long staple cotton from Switzerland, Tani’s SwissTouch Cotton Crew Shirt is probably the nicest crew shirt I own.

It has that same luxurious feel as their cotton underwear, with a close to the skin fit (but not like a compression shirt). These are really solid, everyday wear kind of t-shirts.

SILKCUT LOUNGE SHORTS

If you’re looking for something super comfortable to wear around the house, Tani’s SilkCut Lounge Shorts will do the trick.

They’re so soft and comfy, but they’re also very thin; definitely not for going out in public with. They’d make a nice pair of pajama shorts too if you choose to go without underwear underneath them.

FAQS

IS TANI A GOOD BRAND?

Tani is definitely a good brand for guys who want a more luxurious and high end type of underwear.

IS TANI MADE IN THE USA?

Tani is based out of the United States, but their clothes are manufactured in multiple locations across Asia.

FINAL VERDICT

So yeah, all said and done, Tani is definitely Modest Man approved. They’re on the upper end of the price scale for men’s underwear, but the quality and luxurious feel really comes through in all their options.

I’d recommend that guys go for either the SilkCut or Mesh Boxer Briefs to try it out, and decide for themselves whether they like the fit and style.
