Is Sleeping In Underwear Bad For Your Penis?
Long Story Short
Sleeping in tight underwear may be bad for men — it can impact their fertility and could lead to skin irritation.
What do you wear to sleep? If the answer is tighty whities, boxer briefs or even boxers, your junk may be getting suffocated and needs to be set free.
According to Dr. Brian Steixner, Director of the Institute for Men’s Health at Jersey Urology Group, sleeping in your undies is bad for your penis and could impact your sperm quality.
“Your nether regions need to be just the right temperature in order to optimize sperm production," said Steixner to The Sun.
But fertility problems aren't the only reason you should strip naked before jumping in the sack. The hotter temperatures can lead to a build-up of bacteria around your genitalia, and “more bacteria makes for a higher likelihood that any chafed or irritated skin down there becomes infected,” said Steixner.
So if you don't want to wake up with an itchy bum, it's time to go commando.
And going to sleep in your birthday suit has other benefits, too. It's better for your skin, it can help you lose weight and you'll also sleep better, The Sun reports.
So do away with those undies and jump under the covers buck naked. And if you're lucky enough to be bunking up with someone, it's doubtful they'll complain.
